Storage and Organization Needs

How is everybody today? I thought I would write about something that I’m working on in my kitchen and other areas of my home. Storage and organization! I hope that this post will reach out to motivate some people, to obtain a more organized and happier home with belongings stored safely. When you have your items organized it makes life easier to find, areas neater and more presentable, whether they are food products, bathroom or other items in your home that need to be contained. There are many ways to store your stuff. You can use shelves, cabinets, pantries, closets, containers, totes and baskets. I decided to work on one area of my house for now. The kitchen is where I will concentrate on first. I found some ceramic containers at a thrift shop and got some other containers and jars from Wal-Mart and various places. It is important to be able to keep your food somewhere safe that it doesn’t get stale, old or attract pests. If required to be refrigerated, you need to store it in something to keep fresh in the fridge also. Another reason to be organized is that it makes it easier to find your ingredients and items to save time in the food preparation. It’s also very important to store your food appropriately. Certain foods need to be kept in a cool, dry place and some need to stay cold. It’s also a good idea to keep labels on items to show contents, ingredients and expiration dates. To get started with my kitchen, I will start one side by going through anything on the counters and the cabinets, checking for old and expired food. Clean as I go. Sort by types, shapes and what the usage is for. For instance, I sort all my herbs and spices together, all my baking together, ethnic stuff together, sauces and dressings together, oils and non-stick spray together, and can goods by types (like fruits, veggies, soups) together. I have a spice rack, a basket, and a spice lazy-susan to store my herbs and spices in. I clean all the shelves and counter tops before putting everything back neatly. After getting done with the food, I start on cookware and dinnerware, etc. Then I tackle the fridge and freezer. Trash old stuff and clean from top to bottom, including the drawers and door shelves.

If you want to get on the right path towards a neat, organized home follow these steps:

1. Set aside a certain amount of time, avoid all distractions. Do what’s most important to you at that time.
2. Start pulling out and going through a small section at a time.
3. Throw out old, expired items. Donate, give away, and recycle unwanted items.
4. Sort on table, floor or counter.
5. Clean area where the stuff goes back at.
6. Start putting your items back. If anything needs to go in a basket or container, do so. Also, decide what you use more often to be easy to find and reach for.
7. Lastly, SMILE at yourself and give yourself a great big hug! Good Job!

Why I love my Kitchen Tools and Gadgets

Hello, everybody! I haven’t done a blog post in a very long time. I thought I would do a post on some of the things I love. This week’s post is on kitchen tools and gadgets.

I do LOVE to cook. When I cook a meal, I like using kitchen tools and gadgets. They make life a lot easier. I can’t imagine not having the essentials for my food preparation. I use kitchen tools and gadgets every day.  Some of my favorites are the can opener, garlic press, non-stick whisk, spoons and spatulas, cutting boards, measuring cups and spoons. I have so many recipes that I use all kinds of kitchen gadgets. Even for the simplest foods, I use some sort of gadget for it. Kitchen tools really are a must for me. I don’t always purchase the highest quality or price. I shop around for sales and use coupons when possible. Although I have purchased some pricey items that I have had for about twenty years and they are still in great condition. I have attached a few shopping links that you can earn from shopping through. I also included examples of some kitchen tools and gadgets that I either own or that are on my wish list. You don’t need all that are on the market. There are too many to have them all and it would be too expensive. The basics will do just fine. Add to your collection when you are able to.

Change is Good! Keep watching!

I’ve thought about it long and hard, but I will be cleaning up my blog site. I feel like I need to make updates because of the lifestyle changes in my life over the last few months. I will be writing mostly about healthy foods, recipes, and kitchen gadgets, my body transformation progress, etc. I will also be writing about other things from time to time, i.e. family, friends, social events, hobbies, business entrepreneurship, etc.

So Perplexed!

I’ve been thinking what to write about for my next blog. I think the main reason why I can’t come up with anything is because I need to figure out my niche and I’m not happy with the appearance and functionality of my blog site. Does anyone know what I can do to solve these problems?

I have so many interests and not sure what to do or what is most important to my site. I am lacking the motivation and passion for blogging these days. I am also frustrated on trying to figure out affiliate marketing. HELP!

Happy Birthday to Me!

I’m going to be Fifty tomorrow! The BIG FIVE OH!!! OH My, that feels like such a huge number. I’m feeling so OLD!!! I can’t believe I’m joining The FIFTY CLUB!!! It’s better to be getting older than to be DEAD!

I’m always told that I look young for my age or that I have found the fountain of youth. But I certainly feel my age. I have lots of aches and pains from accidents and scoliosis. And since I’ve been getting older I’ve noticed that when I get a cold, it is very hard to shake it off sometimes.

Here are some of the things that I do that I believe has helped me stay looking and feeling younger.

  • Drink lots of water. (I’ve heard that you should drink half your body weight in ounces. But I hardly ever do. “Pout!”)
  • Cleanse my face. (Even if I don’t have a cleanser, I splash my face with water. Water is my friend.)
  • Use moisturizer!!!! (I can’t stress this enough. I use it daily, sometimes twice a day. My mother got me to start using moisturizer when I was maybe 12 or younger, I’m not sure. The first brand I used was Dew Kiss by Avon and is no longer available. Boo! A similar one I’ve found is called Purpose.)
  • I don’t destroy my skin by worshipping the sun. (If I must be out in the sun, I use a high sunscreen and don’t stay out long.)
  • I try to eat whole, natural foods. (I try to stay away from processed food and stuff that has chemicals in it.)
  • I limit my cheat snacks as a reward or for a special occasion. (They are appreciated greatly!)
  • If I feel like drinking alcohol, I drink moderately and not very often. (Usually, once or twice a month is good enough for me.)
  • I try to get enough sleep. (Even though I don’t always go to bed at a decent time. 6-8 hours is good.)
  • Take vitamins. (Since I recently went “Vegan”, I only take a multivitamin and B-12. I get plenty of the necessary vitamins and nutrients from my plant-based diet.)
  • Take walks. (It gives me the exercise and vitamin D. It’s good to get your body moving, to be out of the house and breathe in the fresh air.)
  • Eliminate stress from my life. (I know it is inevitable that we all have stress. I try not to sweat the minor stuff. Take one day at a time and try to stay positive. It helps to be around friendly, positive people.)
  • Be HAPPY!!! (Life is too short. Make your life the best you can. If you aren’t happy about something, what can you do to make things better? Take baby steps towards a better, happier life.)
  • Get a change of scenery every once in a while. (Being away from home helps you recharge, even if it’s for a few hours. Take a walk on the beach, waterfront, nature trail or just a leisure drive.)

Hello everybody! I hope everybody is doing great!

I recently decided to make some changes in my eating habits and lifestyle to go Vegan.  I first decided to go vegan for my health, but then after learning more about veganism, I learned about other reasons; the animals, the environment, and the world. So ethically and morally, it seems like the right choice.

Many people say…

It’s ok to eat eggs, beef, pork, and seafood and honey because they have been programmed from a very young age that it’s part of the food chain. But they don’t think about the origination of where the food comes from and that they didn’t directly do the slaughtering, that it’s ok to not think about it. If they had to kill the animals, they would think again. If they saw the animals living conditions, they would make changes. Stop the unnecessary cruelty to animals!

We don’t think about the harm that’s being done and how inhumane it is when we order a meal or shop for food. I watched the videos of how the animals are raised, treated from beginning to end. I recommend anyone that has a caring heart to have an open mind and watch this video and others that are available online, YouTube and Netflix. *Beware* the videos can be disturbing but so true. But think about it like this, if you can’t watch it; do you really want to eat the products that come from these animals?

We can get all the nutrients and energy we need from plant life. If everybody would start by not eating meat for one day, it would save so much energy, water, and animal lives. Then try it for one week, just see how you feel. Then try it for a month. I found lots of recipes that I want to try out. This is going to be a grand adventure! Tips to Get Through the Holidays Smoothly and Stress-free

Hello! I hope that everybody had a wonderful Christmas and didn’t eat too much. Mine was good.  I was able to see my family. I cooked ham, green beans, corn on the cob, sweet potato casserole, brown n serve rolls and baked a lemon pound cake. It was all very good. I will share the recipes with you soon. What are some of your favorite holiday foods? Do you have any family recipes that are enjoyed for family get-togethers? Do you have any tips to make life easier during the holidays?

Here are some tips that help me…

(Through the year) Make a list of those that you need to shop for and what for each person. When you are out and catch sales or have coupons/rebates, go ahead and buy if you are able to.

(A month or so before holiday event) Make a menu list along with recipes. Check to see if you already have the ingredients needed before shopping. Also, write up a guest list to make sure you will have enough food and dishes for them all.

(A week or longer in advance) Wrap gifts and put name tags on them. Write gift items down what you got for each person so you don’t buy it again or just so you remember it.

(A few days before cooking day) Go over food list/recipes again to make sure you have all that you need before you start cooking. Lay out the baking dishes, serving dishes and ingredients needed for each dish. I put the ingredients in the casserole dishes or near so they are ready to go. That’s if they aren’t perishable though.

(A day to 3 days before depending on what it is) Prepare any food that will keep. Cook any food that is freezable, like cookies and pies. Tidy up the house.

(Morning of) First thing, prepare the food that takes the longest and that goes in the oven or slow cooker, such as turkey, ham or roast. Time the other food according to how long they take to cook. I prepare the dish then place in the oven or on the stove closer to when it’s time to eat.

(While food is cooking) Wash dishes and set the table with dishes, eating and serving utensils, salt, pepper, toothpicks, and napkins. Get some rest whenever you can, before all the family arrives or if your family is already there, play a game with them or watch a movie together.

I hope these tips help! Doing some things ahead of time will help make the day go a little less stressful and help you as far as getting things done in a timely manner. Plus being organized and making plans in advance helps tremendously so you will be able to spend time with your friends and family.

Goals, Priorities and Responsibilities- OH MY!

Does anyone else feel overwhelmed when it comes to responsibilities, setting goals and prioritizing them?

Ohmigosh, I sure do! I think my problem, most of all, is that I procrastinate. When I procrastinate, everything gets piled up, too much on my plate and can’t think clearly to be able to prioritize them because of being so overwhelmed.

So…. To solve my problem, I decided to set a schedule and take on little tasks and move on to the next task at hand. If you use a calendar or planner, write out a list for each day of tasks that must be done at the top of the list, what I want to do and lastly, what I can do if I have time and that can be done while watching TV.  If you use a notebook; make three columns may be labeled as i.e. (urgent, important and leisure). You can also categorize the tasks by if they are a household chore, business/work, personal or for a family or friend. Some people use computer programs like Evernote and PlannerPro. They are good to use but I prefer writing things out and being able to see and hold in my hands and I can mark out what’s been done, make additional notes as needed. I also like to use highlighters and colored pens to color code for what’s been done or type of task.

There may be hobbies or projects that you enjoy or have put off because of more important things always need to be done. Set aside at least once a week for an hour or longer to do something that you enjoy. We all need to have that time for our sanity! If you don’t have time to plan an outing with a friends or family, give them a call or a random message to let them know that you haven’t forgotten about them.

With today’s technology, it is easy to lose touch with everyone. Even though technology makes it easy to communicate, there is so much going on and there are so many social media platforms that it is sometimes hard to keep up with it all.

Such a sweet baby! Awww!!!

Babies are so wonderful! I am so happy to have grandbabies. They are so much more fun and so different than when I was raising my kids. My youngest grandbaby is 2 weeks old. I was able to see her today. She is so beautiful and sweet. She has two siblings, an older brother and a sister. I am so proud of my daughter when I see her being such a wonderful mother to her kids. The photo is the newest addition to the family and her big brother. He loves his little sissy!
